Sandboarding in New Zealand | Tips and Video!

It’s been on my bucket list for ages! Sandboarding is so much fun!

There is a good spot to do it in New Zealand called The Giant Te Puki Sand Dunes. They reach up 100 metres and it’s estimated that some of the slopes exceed 45°. I’m not sure how fast you go, but it sure feels fast!

You can hire a board for just $10,- from a friendly local at 8970 Far North Road in Te Kao. Everybody else ask $15 dollars for it. If you are with two people I reckon one board is enough. One can film, take photos and rest for a bit when the other person is going down.

Once you have a board you are all good to go! The part that we don’t show in the video that much is walking up the slopes… It’s definitely a good work out! It took me ages to reach the top and be able to breathe normal again ;). It’s so much worth it though.

A good tip that I wish somebody told me before I went is to wear socks. We went on a very hot day and the sand was just burning my feet! It doesn’t look that sexy but I will put them on myself next time.

Going down is good fun. Just hold on to your board tight and you can steer by putting your feet in the sand. Close your mouth going downhill otherwise you will eat sand (been there done that).

Have you done it before? Did you like it? Let me know!

Here is the video @time_to_film and I made to give you an impression. Enjoy!
